2008 Highlights: Atlanta Division
Catamount’s Atlanta Division enjoyed another successful year in 2008, completing its largest volume of construction work in the company’s 12 year history. More importantly, the Atlanta Division maintained its impressive repeat client and employee retention ratios, which is the true measure of success by Catamount standards.

A proud achievement in 2008 was increasing Catamount’s LEED/sustainable portfolio of projects. Included in this portfolio is Oakland Park, a Silver LEED certified project, and Atlanta’s first multi-family residential construction to be certified as a green building by USGBC, which also earned the following nominations:

  • Finalist: 2008 ULI Atlanta’s “Development of Excellence” Award
  • Winner: 2008 Central Atlanta Progress, Inc. / Atlanta Downtown Improvement District’s “Design of Excellence” Award

Another notable green building project starting construction in 2008 was Sustainable Fellwood in Savannah, Georgia.  Fellwood was accepted into USGBC’s LEED for Neighborhood Development Pilot Program and will be seeking LEED certification upon completion. The owner / developer is a group of investors headed by long-term client Melaver, Inc., a respected green building expert and pioneer in sustainable development.  In conjunction with breaking ground on Fellwood, Catamount added the first of several scheduled hybrid vehicles to its transportation network, and is utilizing it in connection with the construction of Fellwood.

Multiple new retail projects were completed for long term clients Taco Mac, LA Fitness, CarMax and Walgreens.  Retail center work included Breckenridge Corners, Wade Green Crossing Shopping Center, Webb Gin Crossing and Sprayberry Square Retail Center  In healthcare, Easlan Capital awarded Catamount its first medical office building, Southern Cancer Center, in Daphne, Alabama, and it was delivered on schedule and $200,000 under budget in April 2008. Multi-family and office projects included Town Place Condominiums and West Point Center Office Condominiums respectively.

New hospitality brands starting construction in 2008 included Country Inn & Suites, Hampton Inn & Suites and Holiday Inn Express. And, the impressive conversion of the Crowne Plaza Hotel to The W Hotel Buckhead was completed in November 2008 for Noble Investment Group. Industrial client Home Depot / IDI provided the opportunity to construct a 657,000 square foot distribution center in Valdosta, Georgia, which was delivered on budget and one month early.  Automotive projects included Honda Mall of Georgia and Atlanta Toyota, both Penske Automotive renovation / expansion projects for operating dealerships.  Additional new clients included Concordia Properties, MetroGroup, William Ferry Properties, LLC and two new clients for the Walgreens brand May Street, LLC and United Retail.

Yearly highlights would not be complete without mentioning the successful management of multiple OSHA inspections.  Catamount continues its history of many man hours worked without significant subcontractor accidents resulting in injury, i.e. an EMR rating of 0.93 which is superior to the national average.

2008 Highlights: Denver Division
As a commercial general contractor with an unprecedented repeat client ratio of over 80% for the past six years, our work for multiple, highly valued core repeat clients was prolific.
A new 82,200 square foot retail center in Draper, Utah was constructed for Furniture Row Companies, making this the seventh project completed for this Denver-based furniture giant.  Four Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market projects were constructed in the State of Nevada for a total of 15 projects for Tesco, LLC.  Two ground-up facilities were built for Chase Bank this past summer bringing the total project count for to 10 within the State of Colorado.  A second project for repeat client FirsTier Bank rounds out our financial institution work in 2008.  We were honored to build CarMax, Inc.’s 100th retail complex in Virginia, bringing the grand total of completed projects for this automotive giant to 19 nationwide.

Regency Centers, a national developer, owner and operator of grocery-anchored and community shopping centers, awarded Catamount it’s fourth project, Crossroad Commons, a retail re-development project in Boulder, Colorado.  With the completion of Tavern Tech Center and Tavern Wash Park, the total project count for Denver-based restaurant developer Tavern Hospitality Group (THG) totals five.  Other projects include Lowery Tavern, Tavern Downtown and The Soiled Dove Underground.

Additional work for core repeat clients in 2008 included Walgreens (5), Sam’s Club (2) and a tenant improvement project for Forest City Enterprises, our seventh project for this nationwide developer.

Further highlights include the acquisition of multiple new clients including Alberta Development, Armstrong Development Properties, Inc. Gambro Renal, LLC, MVG Development, Wagner Equipment, Holt Investments, Raufeisen Development and Macy’s Inc., a new 122,000 square foot retail facility in Fairview, Texas valued at $6.5 million.

Our on-going association with ‘Rebuilding Together Metro Denver’, a non-profit organization that works in partnership with the community to rehabilitate the houses of low-income homeowners, continues to be a source of great pride.  In April, 2008 over 65 dedicated employees from Catamount’s Denver Division once again joined forces to perform a variety of remodel projects on a home in the Denver metropolitan area.

Geoff Wormer, Chief Executive Officer
As we continue to navigate through challenging economic times, we enter 1st Quarter 2009 with cautious optimism while positioning Catamount for 2009 and beyond. While keeping a watchful eye on short term resiliency we are attempting to balance Catamount’s needs for long term success. The goal was to benchmark the company’s current operations against the rest of the industry to ensure we always remain “Best of Class” and identify ways to grow as individuals as well as a company.
