Catamount Begins Vertical Construction on Affordable Housing Project

November 9, 2011

DENVER, Colorado – Catamount Constructors, Inc. (Catamount), a privately held commercial general contractor with offices in Denver, Atlanta, Savannah and San Antonio, announced today that vertical construction began on Bluff Lake Apartments in late October.  Owned by Denver-based nonprofit Mercy Housing and located on the corner of 31st Avenue and Havana Street, this new affordable housing project will occupy 2.3 acres within the redevelopment community of Stapleton, one of this region’s premiere master planned neighborhoods.

Designed by Denver-based KTGY Group, Inc., this single 4-story stick frame facility will include 92 units ranging in size from 402 to 1,261 square feet for a total of 198,000 square feet.  The facility will include 36 one, 46 two and ten three bedroom homes with 50% of the units dedicated to assisting families in transition.  The project is scheduled to be completed in April 2012.

“Mercy Housing’s belief that affordable housing and supportive programs improve the economic status of residents, transform neighborhoods and stabilize lives is one that resonates with our entire team of construction professionals,” said Tom Seaman, a Catamount Principal and Vice President of Operations.  “We are energized by this core belief and look forward to contributing to Mercy Housing’s nationwide movement to alleviate poverty and build healthy and lasting communities,” Seaman added.

Founded in 1981, Mercy Housing is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit affordable housing organizations, building new developments and acquiring and rehabilitating existing housing.  Working with public, private and government partners and developers for nearly 30 years, Mercy Housing has developed affordable, program-enriched housing for low-income families, seniors and people with special needs who lack the economic resources to access quality, safe housing opportunities.  To date, Mercy Housing has participated in the development, preservation and/or financing of more than 40,000 affordable homes, both rental and single family, and an additional 7,309 homes are in the pre-development, construction or concept phase.

“We are excited to be working with Catamount to build our newest housing development for families in need in the Denver area,” said Jennifer Erixon, Mercy Housing Senior Vice President of Asset Management.  “Catamount has proven to be an excellent partner focused on creating a high quality product at a reasonable price, which has allowed us to enhance our development with additional green features,” Erixon concluded.
